Depends on what you’re doing. If you’re a ‘power browser’ that has multiple sites open all at once, then no, it isn’t a waste. If you’re just a casual browser, then yes, because most of the bandwidth will never get used.
However, more bandwidth is always good if you watch a lot of movies, listen to music, or download a lot. While many servers may not utilise your full bandwidth, most will use the majority of it.
A lot of bandwidth is also handy when your household has multiple computers all using the net at once.
